It is strongly recommended that you try and obtain Housing accommodation in Miami as early as possible. A searchable housing database is available on myROSS: http://myross.rossu.edu. A student ID (called the Banner ID) will be given to you on payment of your deposit and this will allow you to access myROSS. You will find the database labeled Miami Housing under the Student Services Tab.
In addition to apartments or rooms for rent in private homes, the housing list contains several hotels/motels where students have stayed. (Besides the obvious benefits of having a furnished apartment with maid service, the hotel/motel listings have weekly and monthly rates – often discounted for Ross students). The ideal areas to live in Miami while you complete MERP would include South Miami, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and Kendall. It is advisable to try and find an apartment in close proximity to the RUSM Miami campus center at the 7000 building.
You may wish to check other resources for living arrangements such as www.apartments.com, www.rent.com and www.miamiherald.com. Do let the landlord know that you will need a short-term lease. (Some of the landlords may add a premium to your lease because of this).
If you have questions related to Housing, please contact Ms. Janet Sofras at 305-667-5455 ext: 221.
It would be advisable to bring two blank checks or enough cash to secure the place on the spot with the first month’s rent and security deposit (a good suggestion is to have $1500.00 to $2000.00 ready to pay for housing immediately…that probably should be able to cover the security deposit and the first month’s rent). ALSO PLEASE REMEMBER THAT MANY LANDLORDS MAY REQUIRE CASHIER’S CHECKS OR TRAVELLER’S CHECKS FOR DEPOSITS.
